Can You Help The Bookbridge Charity?

This charity aims to improve children’s access to education in developing countries by establishing education centres. Bookbridge works with scouts in Germany, the USA & the UK, they send used children’s books to schools where they teach English.

How Can We Help?
Last year, scouts across the UK collected 75,000 books.
This year, from 2nd – 13th July, we would like our Beavers, Cubs & Scouts to join in the national collection and donate their unwanted CHILDRENS books, which we will send to the charity.

Find out more on the Bookbridge web site.
Please bring books to the HQ on any meeting night up to and including the 13th July.

Scout Section Update June 2012

Posted on June 27th, 2012 by Webmaster

March 30th was an impressive evening for the troop, when one of our teams successfully defended the district scout quiz trophy, won last year, and another team coming second, only one point behind.  As a result of their hard work in helping to organise the District St Georges day service, most of the scouts were awarded the Faith Participation award. We had good positive feedback from other members of the district, who felt the service was well presented.  In early March, scouts began their preparation for the Bah’t at walk, which is a 13 mile challenge walk, over Baildon & Ilkley Moor. To achieve the Fitness Challenge Badge, scouts had to take part in at least 4 Saturday practise walks, and complete the Bah’t at. No one could have envisaged how difficult, due to the weather conditions, the walk would be. We encountered driving rain, hail, gale force winds and atrocious under foot conditions. All our scouts, leaders and parents completed the walk, with the scouts fully deserving their Fitness Challenge Badge.  West Yorkshire County Scouts came up trumps over the May Bank Holliday weekend when they organised a brilliant camp at the Yorkshire Show Ground for over 5000 Beavers, Cubs, Scouts, Explorers & Leaders. Despite the below freezing night time temperatures, everyone had a great time taking part in the hundreds of activities on offer.
Most of our scouts recently camped at Fan wood, working towards their Outdoor Challenge, or Outdoor Challenge +.
Coming up we have the annual Field Day weekend camp and our summer camp at Hesley Wood scout camp site, during July.

Cub Update June 2012

Posted on June 27th, 2012 by Webmaster

The Cubs have been very busy since the last update, we have gained some new Cubs from Beavers and shortly will be sending some of the older Cubs to Scouts.  We have done lots of activities, which including taking part in the District St Georges Day Parade, which was hosted by us, all the Cubs who attended did the group proud and they gained their Faith participation Award.  We had a very cold but enjoyable weekend at the Yorkshire Showground in Harrogate for the County “Big Camp” where we joined over 5000 other Scouters from all over West Yorkshire and beyond and took part in lots of activities, loads of photos available on the website.  We have started work on the chef’s badge and the Cubs are now ready to put their menu’s into practise and cook for the special VIP guests.  We also had 5 Cubs at the District Sixers & Seconders weekend at Fanwood which included a joint Jubilee Party with the Beavers and even though the weather wasn’t kind we all still had an excellent time.  We are open all summer (numbers permitting) so come along and join the fun.

Beaver Update June 2012

Posted on June 27th, 2012 by Webmaster

Since the last woggle Beavers have been very busy, we sent quite a few up to Cubs and gained a couple of new ones. We have also got a new helper called Jo who the Beavers have named Squirrel so i would like to welcome her on-board.  Activities wise we have had 3 major events the first been the Beavers 25th birthday bash, this was well attended and we all had fun doing party games and then the band played us Happy Birthday, a very memorable event.  The second event was St Georges day which was hosted by us the 11th, the Beavers helped with the presentation and did us proud.  Our last event was the biggest and the best it was Big Camp, I took 9 of them to the Harrogate showground for 24hours where we camped with over 5000 other scouters and did lots of very exciting activities please take a look at our web site to see the pictures. At the end of the 24hours I don’t know who was more exhausted me or the kids !   We will be finishing for the summer on Thurs 18th July and returning on Thurs 13th Sept where we will be receiving some new young beavers. Have a good summer and see you all in Sept.
