Summer Gala 2013

This years Annual Summer Gala will be held on Sunday 19th may 2013, at the Scout HQ in Green Lane Hunsworth.

Attractions to include:-

SPORTS & GAMES, DANCE DEMONSTRATIONS, CROCKERY SMASH, HOOK-A-DUCK, TOMBOLA, SPRING BEDDING PLANTS, BOUNCY CASTLE, LIGHT REFRESHMENTS, HOT DOGS, BURGERS, SPEN VALLEY SCOUT & GUIDE BAND, GRAND RAFFLE, COCONUT SHY.

The fun starts at 14:00 and entry is free, so why not come along and join the fun!

Saturday 23^rd March – Family Fun Day at Fanwood Campsite Gomersal 10:00 – 14:00 come along and have a go at the various activities on offer Cost £5 per family

Friday 29^th March – NO MEETING (Good Friday)

Friday 5^th April – Normal Meeting (Camp Pre-Planning/Pack a Bag)

Friday 12^th April – Pack Holiday Weekend at Fanwood Campsite meet at 19:00 at the Training Centre. To be collected on Sunday.

Friday 19^th April – Normal Meeting

Sunday 21^st April – Spen Valley District St Georges Day Parade. Meet at Whitcliffe Mount School at 13:00 to be collected from Whitcliffe Mount around 16:00 (Please make the effort to attend! It is all part of badge work to take part)

Sunday 19^th May – Annual Group Gala from 14:00 – 16:00 please come along and show your support for the group, further information will be given nearer the time.

Cub & Scout Swiming Gala 2013

Friday 8th February saw both the Cubs and Scouts join together for the annual swimming gala, well done to all who took part!
Unfortunately we didn’t get placed in the Cub Section but well done to the Scouts for their joint 3rd place!
Everyone who took part did really well!
Well done again!

Saturday 26th Jan Torchlight Walk at Oakwell Hall meet at 18:00 no unaccompanied children please!
Friday 1st Feb Family Presentation Night meet at the HQ at 18:30 and we should be done for 20:30!

Scouts International Night

On Friday the 12^th October the scouts held an international night. All scouts and leaders attended in a costume representing a country of their choice. This included Japan, China, France, Australia and Scotland – to name but a few.

The scouts were asked to bring information about the country of their choice and if possible an activity or game relevant to that country. Several games with an international theme were played including French cricket, Sumo wrestling and a game involving trying to pick smarties up with chop sticks!

The scouts sampled a wide variety of foods from different countries and an international themed ‘run around’ quiz was held.

This was a fun night enjoyed by all.

Young Leaders Hit Platinum!

three young leaders at the group were presented with their Chief Scouts Platinum award, this can be regarded as a ‘steppingstone’ to the Queens scout award, the highest in scouting. to qualify for this award, the young leaders have taken part in an overnight expedition, carried out service at the Hunsworth scout group by assisting at Beaver & Cub meetings, organised and run an international night for Scouts & taken part in environmental projects, some of the activities also qualified them for the Duke of Edinburgh Bronze award.

The badges were presented by Group Scout Leader, David Sowden & District Commissioner Mike Terry. The young leaders also attended the County presentation evening at Bradford Cathedral.

Scouts Hit Gold!

Four members of the Scout troop recently qualified for their Chief Scouts Gold Award, the highest award that can be gained by members of the troop. To gain the badge, scouts must hold at least
8 challenge badges including Expedition, Adventure, Outdoor, Creative, Physical & Global.

Amongst the many varied activities that the scouts took part in were; an overnight expedition, assisting in the organisation & running of the district St. George’s day service, taking part in the ‘Baht at walk’ over Ilkley Moor and researching into child labour and exploitation.

The badges were presented at the Hunsworth HQ by Assistant Scout Leaders, Robert Jackson, Karen Lomas; District Commissioner Mike Terry & Scout Leader David Bentley.

On the following weekend, the scouts attended a West Yorkshire County Scouts presentation at Bradford Cathedral, where Scouting’s Chief Commissioner for England, Tim Kidd, presented each of them with a framed Chief Scouts Gold Certificate, signed by the Chief Scout – Bear Grylls.
